Statement of Faith

SCM Statement of Faith

Section 1

  • The Bible.  We believe that the Bible, composed of 66 books of the Old and New Testament, to be verbally and plenary inspired by God, inerrant and infallible in their original writings, and that they are supreme and final authority in all matters of conduct, faith and doctrine (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:19—21).

Section 2

  • The Trinity.  We believe in the one and only true God, eternally existing in three persons:  Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each one distinct from the other yet all are identical in being and nature and equal in power and glory (John 16:12—15 Matt. 19:19).

Section3

  • God, the Father.  We believe in God, who is uniquely and eternally the Father  of our Lord Jesus Christ,  the Father of all mankind by creation,  and the Father of all who trust in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord, who exercises absolute sovereignty over all of His creation, that by His goodness and providential care it is sustained, whose greatest act in human history is in the giving of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as a propitiation for our sins. (Ephesians 1; Acts 17: 24-28; I Chron. 29:10; John 1:12, 13; 3: 16; Rom. 8: 14-16).

Section4

  • Jesus Christ.  We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered and died as a representative, substitutionary sacrifice for sinful man, was buried and rose again, ascended bodily into heaven, sat down at the right of God as the believers’ High Priest and Advocate.  We believe that He will return gloriously and bodily to earth a second time to save the believers and judge sinners (John 1:1-3; Rom. 1:3-4; Luke 1:31-34; I Cor. 15: 1-8; I Pet. 3:18; I Thess. 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:1-20; Heb. 4 14-16; I John 2: 1).

Section 5

  • Holy Spirit.  We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, who is co-creator with the Father and the Son, author of the sacred Scriptures, incessantly at work to reveal Christ to men, to convicting of their sin, regenerating repentant sinners, sanctifying the lives of the redeemed and guaranteeing eternal life (Gen. 1:1, 2; 2 Pet. 1: 20, 21;  John 3:5-8; 16: 7-11;  Rom. 8: 1-27;   Eph. 1: 13-14)

Section 6

  • Man.   We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he has sinned thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that of spiritual death, which is separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and that those who reach moral responsibility become sinners in thought, word and deed. (Rom. 1:18—32; 3:9 –23).

Section 7

  • Salvation.  We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ and in His atoning sacrifice, and that all who repent of their sins and trust in Him are born again in the Holy Spirit through whom they become God’s children, and as such, are forgiven of their sins, receive the gift of eternal life, and enabled to walk in the newness of life (John 5:3-18; Rom. 10:9-10 John 1:12; Gal. 5: 16-26).

Section 8

  • Church.  We believe that the Lord is continuing to enlarge Hs family, the universal body of Christ, which is composed of all born again believers all over the world.  We believe in the local church, which is a body of believers who are baptized by immersion, associated for worship, proclaiming God’s living word to a dying world, administering the ordinances of baptism and holy communion, and building up one another toward spiritual maturity in Christ to the glory of God (Eph. 1:21-23;  4: 11-16; Rom. 12:5-8; I Cor. 12:4-41; I Pet. 4:10-11; 5:1-5; I Tim. 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 8:38; Rom. 6:1-5; 1 Cor. 11:23-31; Luke 22:19-20).

Section 9

  • Second Coming.  We believe in “that blessed hope”, the personal, pre-millennial, return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ which could occur at any moment, to reign on earth and reward those who belong to Him to live with Him forever and judge those who rejected Him to suffer in hell  (Cor. 15:15-57; 1 Thes. 4:13-18; Acts, 1:11; Mark 9:48;  Rev. 20:4-6; John 5:28-29).

Section 10

  • Angels and Demons.  We believe in the existence of spiritual beings, of God’s holy angels who ministers in His behalf for the saints, and of fallen angels who have rebelled against God’s authority.  We affirm the biblical teaching on the existence and personality of Satan, whose work is to “steal, kill and destroy,”who, by divine permission, tries to hinder God’s work of redemption by preventing sinners to come to repentance and believers from doing the will of God, but who at the final and last day when the Lord shall be revealed, will be ultimately destroyed, he and all demonic forces with him.  We believe thatSatan and his demons have no power over the believers who could resist them in the name of Christ (John 10:10a; Mark 4:15; Luke 10: 18; Rom. 16:20; Rev. 20: 1-3, 7-10)

Section 11

  • Heaven and Hell. We believe in the existence of Heaven and Hell. Heaven is the eternal reward for those who believe in God though our Lord Jesus. Hell is the eternal punishment of fire for those who turned away from God.  (John 14:2-3,Matt 25:46)
